Birmingham Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) is located in Birmingham, Alabama. It is the state’s busiest airport, handling over 3 million passengers annually. The airport is a hub for Delta Air Lines and serves as a focus city for Southwest Airlines.
BHM was founded in 1931 as Birmingham Municipal Airport. In its early years, the airport only had a few flights per day. However, as Birmingham’s population and the economy grew, so did the airport. By the 1960s, BHM was handling over a million passengers per year and was one of the busiest airports in the southeastern United States.
Today, Birmingham Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) offers over 150 daily flights to 50+ destinations. The airport has two main concourses – A and B – which are connected by a central atrium. BHM also has a dedicated international terminal, which opened in 2006.
