Dallas Love Field is the secondary commercial airport serving the city of Dallas, Texas. It is about 5 miles northwest of downtown Dallas and is situated along Interstate 35E between downtown and the Dallas Market Center area.
The history of Dallas Love Field began in 1917 when the site was selected as a training ground for the U.S. Army Signal Corps. The facility was officially opened as Dallas Municipal Airport in 1928. American Airlines began operating out of Love Field in 1934, and it soon became the primary airport for the airline.
In 1974, Love Field was replaced by Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport as the primary airport for the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Love Field then became a secondary airport serving mostly domestic flights. In 2014, Love Field served over 2.6 million passengers.
The airport has two terminals: Terminal 1 is used by Southwest Airlines, and Terminal 2 is used by all other airlines. Love Field has a total of 21 gates.
Love Field offers a variety of services, including airport shuttle service, car rental, and taxi service. The airport also has a number of restaurants and shops.
