Edward G. Pitka Sr. Airport is the only airport in the state of Alaska which can accommodate commercial jet aircraft. It is also known as ‘the gateway to Alaska’ because it is located in the unincorporated community of Galena, about 60 miles southeast of Fairbanks, and just off the Richardson Highway.

Pitka Airport (GAL) has one runway, which accommodates aircraft up to Boeing 737s and Airbus 320s. It also houses a terminal building with two baggage carousels, three gates, and three parking ramps for private craft, buses and car rentals.
