San Diego International Airport (IATA: SAN, ICAO: KSAN, FAA LID: SAN), formerly known as Lindbergh Field, is an international airport 3 mi (4.8 km) northwest of Downtown San Diego, California, United States. It is operated by the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority.
San Diego International Airport is the busiest single-runway commercial airport in the United States and the second busiest single-runway airport in the world, behind only London Gatwick Airport. In 2019, the airport served more than 25 million passengers.
The airport is a hub for Alaska Airlines and Southwest Airlines, and is the West Coast primary operating base for Spirit Airlines. It is also a focus city for Allegiant Air. A former hub for AirTran Airways and US Airways, the airport has been a target for low-cost carriers since the early 2000s.
The airport is named after Dr. Charles Lindbergh, who made the first solo transatlantic flight in 1927. The airport was formerly known as Lindbergh Field from 1928 until 1963, when it was renamed San Diego International Airport.
The airport has two main terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, which are connected by a pedestrian bridge. Terminal 1, also known as The Commuter Terminal, is used for domestic and international flights by Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and Spirit Airlines. Terminal 2, also known as The Green Terminal, is used for domestic and international flights by Allegiant Air, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, United Airlines, and Volaris.
The airport also has two satellite terminals, Terminal 2W and Terminal 2E, which are used for domestic flights by Southwest Airlines and United Airlines, respectively.
In 2019, San Diego International Airport served more than 25 million passengers. The airport is a hub for Alaska Airlines and Southwest Airlines, and is the West Coast primary operating base for Spirit Airlines. It is also a focus city for Allegiant Air.
